Washington, D.C. - House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) has announced that House Republicans are planning to take action in response to the increase in violent antisemitic incidents on college campuses across the United States. During a recent discussion with other prominent Republican leaders, Scalise highlighted the concerning trend of antisemitism following the conflict involving Hamas and Israel.
Scalise emphasized the importance of addressing antisemitism, stating, "We're going to continue to hold these people accountable for the money that they get and for the failures that they're ensuing." He called out university presidents for not taking adequate measures to prevent violence and intimidation against Jewish students on their campuses.
The House GOP plans to scrutinize the billions of dollars in federal funding that universities receive. Scalise stressed the significance of this funding, noting that it is intended to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students. He urged university presidents to prioritize student safety and warned that those who fail to do so should resign from their positions.
The Republican leaders expressed their commitment to standing against antisemitism and other forms of discrimination. Scalise underscored the need for moral clarity and accountability, stating, "We need to continue to show the moral clarity between right and wrong and call out antisemitism and attacks on Jewish people and anybody else for their faith for what it is and stand up against the people that are doing it."
The House GOP's initiative aims to address the growing concerns surrounding antisemitism on college campuses and ensure that universities fulfill their responsibilities in providing a secure educational environment for all students.
