House Majority Leader Steve Scalise discussed the House Republicans' budget bill on Fox Business Network's Kudlow, emphasizing its potential to further President Trump's pro-growth agenda. Scalise explained that the bill aims to extend Trump tax cuts, boost American energy, lower costs, and drive economic growth.
Scalise highlighted discussions with President Trump regarding the importance of a single comprehensive bill. He stated, "[The Senate has come around], Larry... President Trump has been all in on the idea of one big, beautiful bill." Scalise noted that such a bill would bring certainty and potentially unlock significant investments currently withheld due to economic uncertainty.
On extending Trump tax cuts, Scalise affirmed their necessity: "Yeah, and the good news on that, Larry... We cannot avoid cuts." He emphasized the need for permanent tax policy over temporary renewals to ensure long-term economic benefits.
Scalise also mentioned efforts to achieve $1.5 trillion in budget savings: "Yes, [I think the Senate can get to the $1.5 trillion budget savings that are implicit in the House budget]." He described extensive meetings within his conference to reach this consensus.
Regarding collaboration with President Trump on achieving a comprehensive bill, Scalise said: "President Trump has been consistently pushing for that one big, beautiful bill." The goal is to remove obstacles like government funding issues and focus on reconciliation for an economic boost.
Finally, Scalise addressed the Ways and Means Committee's role in maximizing the budget's impact: “Let me nail it down for you, Larry. You absolutely can do it in that one big, beautiful bill.” He outlined plans for renewing existing tax policies while introducing new pro-growth measures alongside energy and border security policies.
