On May 10, 2024, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued a statement in response to the Biden administration's report required by National Security Memorandum 20. In his remarks, Scalise criticized President Biden's stance on Israel during its current conflict.

"Despite President Biden’s desire to turn his back on Israel while they are at war, even his State Department today acknowledged the truth: Israel is fighting this war as humanely as possible, in accordance with international humanitarian law and US law," Scalise said.

The Majority Leader continued by addressing the challenging circumstances faced by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). "Facing terrorists who hide behind human shields and hoard humanitarian assistance for themselves, the IDF goes to great lengths to protect civilians in its operations, and accepts great risk to facilitate aid flowing into Gaza."

Scalise concluded his statement by urging President Biden to reconsider withholding military assistance from Israel. "The State Department has confirmed there is no excuse for withholding critical US military assistance from an ally in a fight for its existence. President Biden must resume sending military aid to Israel immediately.”
