WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) expressed his support for Governor Landry’s Drought Disaster Declaration Request for the crawfish industry in Louisiana. In a statement released, Scalise highlighted the impact of last year's drought and saltwater intrusion on the industry, emphasizing the need for assistance for affected small businesses.
Scalise stated, “Last year’s drought and saltwater intrusion events wreaked havoc on Louisiana’s crawfish industry, resulting in a decimated stock and harmful impacts on small businesses. Today, I joined my fellow Louisiana colleagues in supporting Governor Landry’s request for a statewide disaster declaration from the SBA. This would provide access to EIDL loans for small businesses across the state that were impacted by last year’s drought."
The Louisiana Congressional Delegation, including Scalise, is advocating for the approval of Governor Landry’s request to the U.S. Small Business Administration for a disaster declaration. This declaration would enable small businesses in the state to access Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to aid in their recovery from the previous year's challenges.
Additionally, Scalise emphasized his dedication to the preservation and growth of Louisiana’s crawfish industry, recognizing its significance to the state's economy and culture. He added, “I am committed to ensuring that Louisiana’s crawfish industry - which is such a vital part of our economy and culture - can continue to thrive for years to come.”
