WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) recently shared his journey of faith and resilience in the face of adversity in an interview with Eternal Word Television Network’s News Nightly. Reflecting on his battle with multiple myeloma and the 2017 Congressional baseball practice shooting, Scalise highlighted the role of his Catholic faith in guiding him through challenging times.
Scalise expressed gratitude for the support he received during his cancer battle, stating, "For so many people that are watching that said prayers and offered just true genuine support, I can't thank everybody enough because you feel that when you're going through things." He credited the prayers and miracles for his complete remission, emphasizing the importance of faith in his healing process.
Recalling the harrowing events of the 2017 shooting, Scalise acknowledged the miraculous interventions that saved his life, saying, "God performed miracles that day... when I got to the hospital, my doctors said that I didn't even have another minute to spare."
The hardships Scalise faced have deepened his faith and reshaped his perspective on life. He shared, "It's strengthened [my faith] in so many ways, and it also put a different focus too on what is really important in life." Scalise emphasized the power of prayer and the support of loved ones in overcoming challenges, noting the importance of relying on God during tough times.
Addressing recent protests and violence in the country, Scalise urged individuals who harbor anti-American sentiments to consider their freedom and the opportunities available in the United States. He stated, "I would say to any of those people that hate America... you're free to go to that place. If there is... they just want to ruin this place. And we can't let that happen."
Through his experiences, Scalise's faith has been a source of strength and guidance, shaping his resilience in the face of adversity and reaffirming his commitment to his beliefs.
