House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) has expressed his support for the Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 261, which took place on Wednesday. Scalise commended the strong demand for energy exploration and production in the Gulf, despite efforts by the Biden administration to prevent the sale.
The lease sale, which had been temporarily delayed due to last-minute changes and negotiations, resulted in $382 million in high bids from 26 companies. Scalise emphasized the importance of this sale in providing relief to American families and businesses struggling with high energy costs and inflation.
In his statement, Scalise criticized the Biden administration for its alleged attempts to make energy more expensive and increase dependence on foreign nations. He argued that instead of impeding energy exploration, the administration should be promoting additional lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. Scalise believes that such sales would not only lower energy costs for Americans but also create more jobs, contribute to coastal restoration and hurricane protection efforts in Louisiana, and enhance national security.
Scalise expressed concern over the absence of any scheduled lease sales for 2024 under the current administration. He stressed that this lack of action puts America's energy security at risk and called for a change in policies to restore and prioritize the nation's energy independence.
The House Majority Leader concluded by affirming his commitment to fighting for America's energy security and advocating for the unleashing of American energy resources through increased lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. He believes that such measures are essential for the well-being of American families, the economy, and the country's standing in the global arena.
