WASHINGTON, D.C. — On June 14, 2023 , House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) appeared on Fox News’ Fox & Friends to discuss the recent indictment of Donald Trump. Leader Scalise called out Democrats and left-wing prosecutors who are politicizing and abusing the American justice system. Leader Scalise also highlighted tonight’s Congressional Baseball Game, which already raised 1.8 million dollars for local charities in Washington, D.C., and reflected on his road to recovery on the sixth anniversary of the baseball game shooting that nearly took his life.

On the recent indictment of Donald Trump:

“You know, I think when you look at this the first question people ask when they see this constant – over and over, you know, [the] Justice Department [the Federal Bureau of Investigation], [district attorneys] in New York – ‘is justice being administered fairly? If his name was Donald Smith, would this be happening?’ And I think most people recognize, ‘No, there's a different level of treatment, because a lot of people have just said they want to just target Donald Trump.’

“You know, [President] Biden, we've got so much coming out on the Biden family: millions of dollars going through shell corporations, [House Oversight Committee Chairman] Comer’s committee has been exposing a lot of that. You don't hear anything out of those agencies. You'll look at [Secretary] Clinton's server – other people that have handled classified documents – and it's a different level of treatment. So at the end of the day, is justice being carried out fairly? [It] is real[ly] valid.”

On the merits of the indictment:

“Well and again, you can look at someone like [Alan] Dershowitz, who's not a Republican, but has pointed out it's probably a different level of treatment and, and that's the concern. You know, is everybody being treated fairly? That's what we want. Justice should be blind.”

On the Biden family:

“Well, you know, right now, there's an investigation going on and [House Oversight Committee Chairman] Comer’s committee has gotten a lot of that. Senator Grassley – it's been amazing over the years – he has been a real defender of whistleblowers, whistleblower laws, protections. And so he's had people come to him – and we now had people come to us – exposing a lot of things that we found out to be true. The FBI originally when  [House Oversight Committee Chairman] Comer, and [Senator] Grassley saw this, it was in the document and then they redacted it when the full membership saw it. So why are they not disclosing this to everybody?”

On the shooting at a Congressional baseball practice six years ago:

“Well, the first is that God was on that ball field. I mean, true real miracles were performed. I wrote a book documenting some of those in the book, ‘Back in the Game,’ talking about the heroes that were on the field that day. Capitol Police who saved me David Bailey And Crystal Griner, [Congressman] Wenstrup – who's here today, who's a medical surgeon and also a Member of Congress – helped me stay alive, just so I could barely make it to the hospital, but God performed miracles that day. Not just for me, but there were over a dozen other Members of Congress that could have not made it that day.”

On his condition six years later:

“Yeah, you know, I think about just how lucky we all are. Lucky to be alive and God – [I am] feeling great. I’m in a big league ballpark Carly. [Carly Shimkus] was out there throwing. She's done batting practice before but look, it's a great – we're gonna raise probably over a million-and-a-half, two million dollars for local charities. Boys and Girls Clubs. There'll be over 20,000 people here in the stands and it's a really fun event. You know, you fight on the Capitol for the things we believe in. We have big differences in our country, but at the same time we do come together for a really good cause tonight.”

On Congressman Steube:

“[Congressman Steube] is going to be our starting pitcher and, [Steve] Doocy, [Congressman Steube] fell over 25 feet off a ladder and is here – just a few months ago – and is looking great. He's in great shape. He'll be pitching tonight as our starter.”
