House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and Congressman Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.) to address what they perceive as the shortcomings of the Biden-Harris administration. The discussion focused on the Democratic Party's decision to position Kamala Harris as a key figure in their leadership, replacing Joe Biden.
Scalise criticized the Democratic Party for allegedly disregarding their voters' choice by replacing Biden with Harris. "The Democrat Party proved last week that they have absolutely no respect for their own voters," he stated. He argued that 14 million Democrats who voted for Biden were effectively ignored by party leaders.
Scalise also questioned Vice President Harris's track record, particularly her role as border czar. "When President Biden tapped her to be the border czar, it took her months to even get out to the border," he said, alleging that Harris has failed in this responsibility and accusing her of supporting open borders.
Further criticism was directed at Harris’s energy policies and stance on policing. Scalise claimed that she has consistently opposed American energy production while favoring foreign energy sources from countries like Russia and Iran. He also mentioned her support for raising funds for the Minnesota Freedom Fund during protests, describing her as an advocate of defunding the police.
In addition, Scalise highlighted Harris's absence during Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit to the United States and her planned boycott of his speech. "It's disgraceful," he remarked, questioning why she would not show support for Israel amidst its conflict with terrorist organizations funded by Iran.
Lastly, Scalise addressed concerns about Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle's performance and credibility following recent testimony before the Oversight Committee. He accused Cheatle of lying about denying additional Secret Service protection requested by President Trump's team and failing in other aspects of her duties. "She has no credibility," he asserted, calling for her resignation or removal by President Biden.
