Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit responded to a Pearl River-area residence on May 19 after receiving an anonymous tip about drug activity and sales, according to a June 1 announcement from the sheriff’s office.
Upon arrival at the home in the 64000 block of Highway 3081, detectives located marijuana intended for distribution. In addition, they found nine dogs and five cats that appeared to be neglected, as well as two small children living in conditions deemed unfit for children.
Detectives contacted both the Department of Children & Family Services and St. Tammany Parish Animal Control, who responded to the scene. Animal Control took custody of all nine dogs and five cats, while Children & Family Services was notified regarding the welfare of the two children.
The two adult residents at the home, identified as Kassi Kandice King, age 32, and Jeanluc Maser Saucier, age 31, were arrested and booked into St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on multiple charges. These include two counts each of cruelty to juveniles under L.R.S. 14:93 A1 and A3; fourteen counts of animal cruelty under L.R.S. 14:102.1; possession with intent to distribute schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) under L.R.S. 40:966AC; and two counts of illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in presence of a minor under L.R.S. 14:91.13.
King was also booked for contempt of court under L.R.S CCRP:21.
