House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has urged the Senate to advance the budget reconciliation bill passed by the House. Scalise and other Republican leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain, aim to align the bill with President Trump’s agenda to support American families impacted by previous economic policies.
Scalise emphasized that the legislative agenda is focused on resolving fiscal issues, "We have another full week working through our legislative agenda while we also are urging the Senate to continue moving on the budget reconciliation process. This week, they will be taking up the budget that we sent over weeks ago."
The House Republicans are also addressing what they describe as Democratic overreach. "We're not slowing down with the bills we're bringing. Of course, this week, the No Rogue Judges Act," Scalise remarked. The Act challenges district judges perceived as obstructing President Trump’s policies.
Efforts to preserve the integrity of the voting process are also underway. Scalise mentioned plans to "continue to fight for the integrity of the vote to make sure that people that have come here illegally by the millions cannot register and vote." This involves introducing measures to prevent illegal voting.
In addressing government waste, fraud, and abuse, Scalise highlighted collaboration with the President's DOGE Commission, which is investigating inefficiencies in federal spending. He noted, "As you look at reconciliation, one of the things we're looking to do is to finally start to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending."
Scalise praised the work of commission members, including Elon Musk, despite the criticism they face. He stated, "Elon's giving up a lot to do this. As an individual, you see the personal attacks, death threats that are being made against him. That's real, and it's disgusting and disgraceful."
The reconciliation process and related initiatives aim to optimize government spending and deliver savings for taxpayers. According to Scalise, ensuring effective governance remains a priority for the Republican leadership.
