House Majority Leader Steve Scalise addressed the House floor, discussing the passage of a Continuing Resolution by House Republicans. The resolution aims to prevent a government shutdown and enable President Trump to continue implementing his agenda. Scalise criticized Democrats for their opposition, attributing it to their dislike of President Trump.

Scalise commended Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, for his leadership in negotiating the bill. He noted that during the last Congress, over 70% of government funding bills were passed by the House but not acted upon by Senate Democrats led by Chuck Schumer.

The Majority Leader accused Democrats of opposing the resolution before its details were finalized, spreading misinformation about cuts to Medicare and veterans' programs. He argued that such claims were false and highlighted that the bill included increased funding for veterans and a significant pay raise for junior enlisted military personnel.

Scalise emphasized President Trump's commitment to securing borders and reducing waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. He criticized Democrats for opposing these efforts due to their animosity towards Trump.

He also mentioned President Trump's focus on protecting Social Security and eliminating fraudulent activities within the system. Scalise urged Democrats to read the 99-page bill thoroughly, suggesting they might support it after understanding its contents.

Highlighting bipartisan achievements like the 21st Century Cures Act signed by former President Obama, Scalise called for cooperation across party lines to avoid a government shutdown. He expressed hope that Senate Majority Leader John Thune would work towards a functional appropriations process in collaboration with both parties.

In closing, Scalise encouraged passing the Continuing Resolution as a step toward addressing broader challenges facing the nation under Republican leadership with support from Vice President JD Vance.
