Yesterday, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise visited Asheville, North Carolina, to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Helene. He was accompanied by Congressman Chuck Edwards and other representatives including Jason Smith, Mark Alford, and Mike Collins. During his visit, Scalise met with local officials, volunteers, and business owners involved in rebuilding efforts.

In a statement following the tour, Scalise remarked on the resilience of the community: "Hurricane Helene had a devastating impact across western North Carolina. But I saw in Asheville today what I saw in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina: resilient people coming together in the face of destruction and tragedy to lend helping hands to their neighbors and rebuild their vibrant community." He also expressed gratitude for witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by residents and praised Congressman Chuck Edwards for his ongoing efforts to aid recovery.

Scalise's visit included stops at various locations affected by the hurricane. He toured flood damage at Veterans Restoration Quarters and discussed federal support with a restauranteur from River Arts District. The leader also engaged with local business owners working on reconstruction projects in the area.

Scalise emphasized that North Carolina is not alone in its recovery efforts. His visit aimed to highlight both the devastation experienced by communities as well as their determination to rebuild.
