WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (R-Va.), and Congressman Zach Nunn (R-Iowa) to address concerns over rhetoric from Democratic leaders. Scalise emphasized the impact of such rhetoric, citing multiple attempts on President Trump's life.
Scalise highlighted pending legislation aimed at providing equal Secret Service protection for Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as that of a sitting president.
On the topic of violence against women by illegal aliens, Scalise stated, “Before I talk about that, we have a very busy agenda on the floor this week, and Speaker [Johnson] will talk about some of that, especially the CR with SAVE Act. But today, one of the other bills we're going to be voting on is a bill that says if someone is here illegally and they assault a woman... it's a deportable offense."
Regarding American workers and policies perceived as "woke," Scalise noted plans to address emissions regulations: “Tomorrow, we're going to continue moving forward on our agenda... John James from Michigan... is bringing a bill to reverse that [mandate], to end that mandate on the tailpipe emission.”
On strengthening Secret Service protection for presidential nominees, Scalise remarked: “But one of the last votes we're going to have... is a bill by [Congressman] Mike Lawler that will ensure that both nominees for president... get the same level of Secret Service protection as the president.”
Addressing what he termed dangerous Democrat rhetoric, Scalise was explicit in his criticism: “Now I'm going to be very specific because we talk about the rhetoric... We all know Kamala Harris, her quote, where she says, 'Trump is a threat to our democracy and fundamental freedoms.'”
Scalise further called out statements from other Democratic figures including President Biden and Congresswoman Plaskett. He stressed the need for Democrats to temper their language: "Enough is enough.”
