House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) appeared on Fox Business Network's "The Bottom Line" to outline the House Republicans' agenda for September, focusing on countering Chinese aggression and addressing inflation. Scalise criticized the Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act, passed with a tiebreaking vote by Vice President Kamala Harris, for negatively impacting middle-class families.
Scalise stated, “Yeah, Sean, Dagen, great to be with you. And look, if that bill was a bill of yours that had passed and done so much damage to the middle class and the American people, you'd want to forget the name of it too, like Joe Biden is trying to. But you can't change the name. We all know what it was.” He emphasized that the Act involved over a trillion dollars in spending and contributed significantly to rising costs for consumers.
Discussing Republican plans to combat inflation, Scalise mentioned efforts to recover funds spent under previous legislation: “It's billions, tens if not hundreds of billions. And we're looking at every dime because that's something that we want to claw back. By the way, if you claw that back, that will help lower inflation.”
Regarding actions against China, Scalise highlighted concerns about Chinese investments in U.S. farmland and educational institutions: “China buying up our farmland... We're going to have a federal prohibition on the CCP buying up our farmland.” He also noted ongoing legislative efforts targeting Confucius Institutes within higher education.
Scalise concluded by expressing optimism about Republican prospects in upcoming elections: “I just got back from a big swing on the West Coast... There's huge enthusiasm for Republicans growing the majority and for Donald Trump becoming our next President.”
