WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas) to discuss legislation on the House floor aimed at protecting the integrity of federal elections. Scalise emphasized the importance of the SAVE Act in preventing illegal immigrants from accessing ballots and questioned Democratic opposition to the bill.

Scalise contrasted President Trump’s record with that of President Biden, stating: “It's interesting to watch the Democrats right now expressing disdain over Joe Biden's performance at the debate. Let's be clear, first of all, the reason so many people are recognizing that Joe Biden did so poorly is because President Trump did so well in the debate.”

He further commented on Democrats' concerns regarding their nominee: “The White House has been trying to cover up for a lot of his failures. But everybody up here in this town that's interacted with the president has known for years, that this is the Joe Biden that we've all seen.”

Regarding election integrity and voter protection under the SAVE Act, Scalise said: “No wonder when you look at all the Democrats that are abandoning Joe Biden, that he opposes a bill that says illegals can't vote. I guess he's looking for additional votes since he doesn't have his own party's votes anymore.”

Scalise also addressed efforts to protect women's sports: “And we're going to also, by the way, protect the integrity of women's sports. We're bringing [Rep.] Mary Miller’s CRA that reverses a Biden-era regulation that eviscerates Title IX.”

The discussion highlighted Republican unity behind Donald Trump as they prepare for his formal nomination as their candidate for President.
