House GOP Leadership Criticizes President Biden's Election Year Immigration Executive Order
WASHINGTON, D.C.— On June 4, 2024, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), and Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) issued a statement in response to President Biden's recent immigration Executive Order.
“President Biden's Executive Order is nothing more than a desperate political stunt to try and stabilize his plummeting poll numbers," the statement reads.
The GOP leaders assert that since taking office, President Biden has pursued an "open border agenda" which they claim has led to a significant humanitarian and national security crisis. According to the statement, this approach has adversely affected American communities by exposing them to violent criminals, terrorists, cartels, and drugs.
“This Executive action does nothing to end parole abuses or catch-and-release. It continues the administration’s abuse of the CBP One app. It does not reimplement President Trump’s successful Remain in Mexico policy. It provides no new resources for border patrol. It does nothing to deport the millions who have poured over our open border every year since Biden took office. And it will still allow scores of additional illegal immigrants to flood into our country before any so-called shutdown authority kicks in,” the statement continues.
The GOP leaders also highlight that over a year ago, House Republicans passed the Secure the Border Act aimed at addressing these issues but allege that President Biden and Senate Democrats have been slow to act on it.
“Americans can see right through Biden’s election-year stunt,” concludes their statement.
