House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) appeared on Fox Business Network’s "Mornings with Maria Bartiromo" to discuss several pressing issues, including the trial against former President Trump and the Biden Administration's handling of various matters. Scalise criticized what he termed as a politically motivated trial and expressed concerns over the current administration's approach to international conflicts and domestic policies.
On the trial of President Trump in New York, Scalise stated, “What's happening in New York is it's an embarrassment to the judicial system. The fact that you've got a judge so heavily conflicted, his daughter's making millions of dollars off of this trial. You've got the Democrat Party, literally with President Biden's campaign, rolling out an old washed-up actor Robert De Niro to try to intimidate the jury into getting a guilty verdict, regardless of the facts.”
Scalise also addressed broader concerns about what he perceives as an abuse of the judicial system: “People see it, and I think most people in America are disgusted by it, whatever they think of President Trump. I think a lot of people that maybe weren't going to vote for President Trump are looking and saying, wait a minute, I need to give this guy a second look because I don't like what the Democrat Party is doing.”
Discussing economic issues under President Biden’s administration, Scalise remarked: “What they're furious about are what you just showed up on that last segment: the prices that they're paying for everything. They cannot go to a fast food store anymore because of Joe Biden's America.”
Regarding international policy and support for Israel amid ongoing conflict with Hamas, Scalise criticized President Biden’s response: “The only reaction from the United States should be to support our friend and ally, Israel... Why isn't the United States being more unequivocal in their support of Israel? I think that's what people are frustrated by.”
Scalise further commented on House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ claims about Republicans wanting to shut down government operations: “Yeah, that's quite rich coming from somebody who literally voted against every single appropriations bill that came out of the House last year... We're going to bring 12 bills that fund government, and we're going to have a robust debate on spending.”
In summary, Scalise outlined House Republicans' plans for reforms through upcoming appropriations processes while criticizing both domestic policies under President Biden and responses to international conflicts.
