House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) has joined forces with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), and Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to express their condemnation of President Biden's decision to withdraw weapon shipments to Israel. The leaders argue that this move leaves Israel vulnerable in its fight against terrorists. This comes as the Israel Security Assistance Support Act is set for a vote on the House floor, prompting Scalise to assert that each Member of Congress must decide whether to support Israel or Hamas.
Scalise also criticized Senator Schumer for his stated refusal to bring the bill before the Senate, accusing him of siding with the radical pro-Hamas faction of his party over Israel.
On the issue of supporting Israel's right to self-defense, Scalise stated, “Later today, the House is going to be making a very historic and important vote, and that's whether or not we continue to stand with Israel; whether we're going to ensure that the Biden Administration follows through on their promise to deliver the weapons that in many cases, Israel already paid for."
Scalise continued by questioning President Biden's concern for American citizens currently held hostage by Hamas and expressing his disapproval of what he perceives as Biden's support for Hamas over Israel.
Addressing Schumer's refusal to consider the bill, Scalise expressed hope that public pressure would force Schumer into action if the bill passes with bipartisan support in the House. He further stressed that every Member of Congress will have an opportunity to make a choice regarding their stance on this issue.
He concluded by reaffirming Republican leadership's commitment to supporting Israel's right to self-defense and expressing anticipation for Schumer's decision when faced with the bill in Senate.
