WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.V. — House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) has condemned Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's recent remarks calling for new elections in Israel. Speaking at the House Republican Issues Conference, Leader Scalise emphasized the importance of supporting Israel's right to defend itself against terrorist organizations like Hamas. He stated, "It's disturbing to see the Senate Majority Leader attacking our strongest ally in the Middle East, Israel, at this time of war."
Scalise criticized Schumer for targeting the democratically elected leadership of Israel while failing to equally criticize groups like Hamas and Iran, which support terrorist activities against Israel. He called Schumer's actions disgraceful and highlighted the historical alliance between the United States and Israel, stressing the need for unity in supporting Israel's defense.
The House Majority Leader also pointed out the need for political unity in Washington, urging the Democratic Party to recognize the distinction between friends and foes. Scalise asserted that Schumer owes an apology to the people of Israel for his critical remarks towards their elected leadership.
In addition, Scalise drew attention to Schumer's reluctance to bring a bill providing aid to Israel to the Senate floor, emphasizing the importance of standing firm with allies under attack. He reaffirmed the commitment of House Republicans to stand with Israel in their fight against terrorist threats like Hamas.
The remarks made by Leader Scalise reflect the ongoing support and solidarity within the House Republican leadership towards Israel's security and right to self-defense.
