The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on April 21 that it is investigating the discovery of skeletal remains near Slidell.

Deputies responded to a retention pond close to Indiana Avenue and Highway 11 at around 4 p.m. on April 20 after someone fishing in the area reported finding what appeared to be human skeletal remains in the water.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office was notified about the discovery, and the LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services (FACES) Laboratory was also called to assist with the investigation.

On April 21, representatives from the FACES Lab took possession of the remains for further examination, which will help determine a positive identification.

Authorities said that at this time, foul play is not suspected.
