House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and several Republican leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, gathered to discuss ongoing legislative efforts in the House. The focus is on advancing President Trump’s agenda, which includes energy independence, border security, lower taxes, reduced government spending, and protections for vulnerable Americans.

During Police Week, Scalise took the opportunity to honor Capitol Police Officer David Bailey. “I wouldn’t be here today… if not for his bravery,” Scalise said of Bailey’s actions during the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game shooting. He praised law enforcement officers’ dedication and training.

The House is also working on a reconciliation bill aimed at supporting lower and middle-income families. Scalise emphasized the importance of this legislation: “We were losing our middle class before 2017… We saw the benefits primarily to lower and middle-income families.” He noted that failure to pass the bill could adversely affect these groups.

Eleven committees are involved in preparing this bill, with completion expected soon. Scalise mentioned meetings with President Trump and other key figures to finalize details. “We’re going to make America energy independent again,” he stated, highlighting goals like securing borders and avoiding a debt crisis.

Scalise credited Speaker Johnson for his leadership in navigating complex issues within the party: “He has brought our Members together on every tough issue.”

The reconciliation bill is slated for a vote in the Senate following its anticipated passage in the House by July Fourth.
