A man was killed after being hit by a train near Slidell on April 26, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The incident highlights the dangers of walking or being present on active railroad tracks. Train-related fatalities are a concern for both public safety officials and local communities.

Deputies were dispatched shortly before 7:30 p.m. to the area of Haas Road near Highway 11 following a report from a train conductor who said he had struck someone on the tracks. When deputies arrived, they found an unidentified white male deceased in the grass east of the tracks.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the body and will work to make a positive identification.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety around railroads and may prompt further review of safety measures in areas where foot traffic crosses or approaches active rail lines.
