House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined other Republican leaders to discuss key issues including getting the House back on track, passing appropriations bills, and standing with Israel. In his remarks, Leader Scalise emphasized the importance of supporting Israel and criticized President Biden for not taking strong action against Iran.

Regarding the House’s focus on Israel, Leader Scalise highlighted the passage of a bipartisan resolution supporting Israel and the introduction of the Israel Supplemental Appropriations Act. He stated, “We have a critical piece of the funding structure for Israel, bringing the bill to make sure that Israel has the tools it needs to fight and defeat Hamas…This is not a time to sit idly by. The House is going to take strong action today to send that message and send that bill over to the Senate as we continue other focuses.”

Leader Scalise also criticized the Biden Administration for its weak stance on Iran. He expressed disappointment in the administration’s decision to lift sanctions on Iranian oil, allowing Iran to generate billions of dollars in revenue to fund terrorism. He stated, “The House will bring a bill to reimpose strong sanctions so Iran cannot sell their oil on world markets, sending a message all around the globe that you don’t need to go buy Iranian oil…Get your oil from stable sources like America, but don’t fund what is the largest source of revenue for Hamas and other groups all around the world.”

In addition to these foreign policy concerns, Leader Scalise emphasized the House’s commitment to passing appropriations bills and getting the government funding process back on track. He noted the progress made in the House, stating, “we will be at over 80 percent of government funding passing the House of Representatives.” Leader Scalise also praised Speaker Mike Johnson for his leadership in getting the House open for business and fighting for American families.

The remarks made by Leader Scalise and the other Republican leaders reflect a strong commitment to supporting Israel and taking a tough stance on Iran. The House Republicans are determined to pass legislation that ensures Israel has the necessary resources to defend itself and to impose sanctions on Iranian oil to diminish Iran’s role in supporting terrorism. With Speaker Johnson leading the way, House Republicans are determined to stand up for American values and interests on the global stage.
