Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Speaker Johnson, Whip Emmer, and Chairwoman McClain issued a joint statement following the official receipt of the Trump Administration’s rescissions request by Congress. The request aims to cut $9.4 billion in foreign aid spending at the State Department, USAID, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
The statement reads: “Today, the House has officially received the rescissions request from the White House to eliminate $9.4 billion in wasteful foreign aid spending at the State Department and USAID and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds NPR and PBS.”
House Republicans expressed their commitment to enacting a more efficient federal government. They stated: “Now that this wasteful spending by the federal government has been identified by DOGE, quantified by the Administration, and sent to Congress, House Republicans will fulfill our mandate and continue codifying into law a more efficient federal government. This is exactly what the American people deserve.”
The leadership announced plans to present the rescissions bill on the House floor next week. They encouraged support from all members for what they described as a “commonsense measure.”
