Forest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was the third largest nursing home in St. Tammany County for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

Figures indicate the facility offered 172 beds, which is 45 more than the county average in the first quarter of 2026. The center assisted an average of 163.7 residents during that timeframe.

The nursing center received an overall rating of 4 out of 5 from CMS, surpassing the Louisiana average of 2.5 for nursing homes.

Pontchartrain Health Care Center was the county’s largest during the same quarter, with 182 available beds. Greenbriar Community Care Center followed with 174 beds, placing it second.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Forest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center had incurred one fine totaling $13,625 and faced two penalties.

There were six for-profit nursing homes in St. Tammany County, Louisiana, at that time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates continue to show a growing population of older adults nationwide while there is a decline among younger groups. The population aged 65 and older increased by 13% from 2020 to 2024, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older adult population has risen significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study found that nearly half of U.S. adults 65 and older—about 28 million people—may require long-term services and support. The report also forecasts that more than a third of them could eventually rely on nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
