A Covington-area man was arrested early Saturday, May 16, following a fatal shooting at a residence on Highway 1081, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The incident led to the death of one man and the arrest of his brother. Authorities say it began shortly after 1 a.m., when deputies received a 911 call from a woman reporting that her uncle had shot her father. A second call was also received from the suspected shooter himself.

Deputies arrived at the scene in the 20000 block of Highway 1081 near Covington and encountered Frank Jenkins, age 50. Jenkins told deputies he had shot his brother, William Jenkins, age 47, following an altercation.

William Jenkins was found with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The body has been turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office for further examination.

Frank Jenkins was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. He will be booked on one count of Second Degree Murder. Both men reportedly lived on the property where the shooting occurred.

The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about what led up to the altercation or any possible motive.
